The Unforgettable City: Barcelona (Day Two)

Second day in Barcelona. We had breakfast at Farggi, which is a cafe located just off Plaza Catalunya. I ordered a cafe au lait and an apple danish. I love Farggi's cafe au lait - it was so rich and smooth!

We decided to use the hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus to explore the city. Taking the sightseeing bus to tour around Barcelona is probably the best option because it stops by the majority of tourist attractions, such as Parc Guell, La Sagrada Familia, beaches, and etc...

We got on the sightseeing bus at Placa de Catalunya. Plaza Catalunya is a large square in Central Barcelona.

We stopped by the beautiful beaches. The beaches are only 10 minutes from the city centre. The beaches were so busy.

We went to a beachside restaurant called El Cangrejo Loco for lunch. The restaurant has a nice beach front view of the Barcelona beaches.

We ordered the lunch menu. For the price of 25 euros, you get 2 starters (1 cold + 1 hot), 1 main course and 1 dessert.

For starters, I ordered the Iberian cured hams as well as the rockfish soup.

I ordered lobster for main course. It was absolutely delicious.

I ordered Catalan Custard Cream for dessert - perfect ending to our beachside lunch.

We headed over to La Sagrada Familia after our lunch. La Sagrada Familia is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona. It is probably the most famous landmark in Barcelona, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The construction of the church began in 1882 but the project is never completed.

After visiting La Sagrada Familia, we headed over to Park Güell. I must say, Park Güell is my favorite place in Barcelona. The combinations of mosaics, colors, shapes and sculptures make this park a remarkable and fun place to explore.

The colorfulness in the park make you feel like you are walking in a fairy tale.

We returned back to the Plaza Catalunya in the evening. We walked around the streets before heading to dinner.

We went to Ciudad Condal for dinner. The concierge recommended this restaurant to us. We were so glad that we asked for his recommendation. The restaurant is right in the heart of the city, located just off the Plaza Catalunya. This is a very busy restaurant packed with locals and tourists. Finding seats at a busy tapas bar is a challenge. In the beginning, there were no seats at all - the floor was full of people just standing around. We took the challenge and we were able to be seated after 20 minutes. Our server was quite attentive and took very good care of us.

Huge selection of different tapas

We started with Sangria - refreshing and not too sweet

Anchovies, red bell pepper

Grilled assorted mushrooms

Brocheta de langostinos (grilled prawns)

Anchiovies, tomatoes and olives on croquettes

Razor clams

Grilled squid

Goat cheese, pineapple on croquette

Ciudad Condal was one of my favorite meals of the trip. The food was super fresh and delicious. Service was great. I liked how the way how the tapas bars in Barcelona displayed their food items at the bar. We ordered almost everything based on what we saw. Everything looked so appetizing!

We walked through the streets in the Gothic Quarter after our wonderful meal. Gothic Quarter is the center of the old city Barcelona. The city hall is located in the heart of the Gothic Quarter.

April 8th was a very special day. My husband proposed to me on this day after five wonderful years together. He proposed on the rooftop of our hotel, overlooking the beautiful view of Barcelona on a quiet night. Barcelona is such a magical and enchanting city filled with romance. I was completely overwhelmed with love and joy when he proposed. I feel so blessed to have him in my life. Barcelona has become my favorite city that I can never forget.
